Germs are small particles that float in the air in droplets or rest on surfaces. These germs can get into the body and cause illness. When the germs are exposed to antimicrobial medication, they can adapt to them so that eventually the treatments do not work.

This increases the risk of serious illnesses such as sepsis. Antimicrobials should be used sparingly for this reason.
